The cherry on top of another incredible series

NEWS
THE CHERRY ON TOP
OF ANOTHER INCREDIBLE SERIES

Carol Vorderman, Kelly Brook, Rob Rinder and Mo Gilligan face a sandwich biscuit in the signature round, a sweet bread-based technical and reveal their favourite guilty pleasure in a cake Showstopper – but who will have the pleasure of being the final celebrity Star Baker of the series?

THE TENT DIALS UP THE PRESSURE ON KELLY BROOK’S BAKING SKILLS

Baking in the tent might be more stressful than in Kelly’s kitchen, but it was all worth it to raise awareness and to help families like her own who have been affected by cancer.  Kelly admitted her Showstopper didn’t turn out how she’d hoped – and Paul’s face showed he wasn’t too impressed either!  That didn't take away from her Hollywood handshake in the very first Signature round with her 'breakfast egg muffins'.

“My father passed away from cancer in 2007. Whenever there’s an opportunity to do anything to raise awareness, and to help families go through what we went through as a family, that’s always something I will really go out of my way to be a part of. This was one of those things, It’s really fun, people enjoy watching it, and it will get seen by a lot of people. For me it was obviously something that I really wanted to do.”

MO HAD THE TENT AMUSED, BUT WAS HOLLYWOOD LAUGHING?

Mo 'I've never baked before' Gilligan had us all laughing along as he took on the signature with his 'Couple a Cans' cider based biscuits, had a good go at the technical and went all out with his guilty pleasure Showstopper. An obsession with trainers was unexpected, as much as his making jam from scratch... "catch me at a summer fete near you" he announced. See you there, Mo.

Mo thought the sandwich biscuit filling would have seen him rise to the top, but with a reminder from Paul Hollywood that it was ‘all about the biscuit’, he didn’t quite make it to Star Baker status this time.

ROB ‘JUDGE’ RINDER ADJUSTS TO BEING JUDGED BY PAUL AND PRUE

Used to being the judge, Rob ‘Judge’ Rinder had to adjust to having his bakes adjudicated by Paul and Prue in the tent. His technical iced buns were described as pitta breads which didn't give him much hope. Perhaps if he’d tasted less of the wine meant for his Showstopper 'Purple Prose Cake', he might have stood a better chance of winning. Despite not being awarded Star Baker, Rob had a fabulous time in the tent, enjoying a dance with Sandi and being told he ‘smelt and looked gorgeous’ by Noel – no wonder he was distracted.

CAROL HAS MORE THAN ONE REASON TO CELEBRATE

“Most of us have been affected by cancer one way or another. I’m here to celebrate the research that has been done. I can remember when I was young in the 1970s in Wales, a lady a few doors away died from cancer, and nobody would talk about it. Not because it was a shameful thing, but because it was a death sentence. Now it doesn’t have to be. My mum got her first cancer nearly 20 years before she died. She had ovarian, then she had kidney cancer – not a secondary cancer – and then she had melanoma. They were all primaries. But the research gave her 20 more years, and gave me 20 more years with my mum. Had that happened 30 years earlier, she wouldn’t have had those two decades. So I want to celebrate what has been done. And now my daughter Katie is working in this field, and I’m celebrating what she’s doing. The work that she’s involved with might well lead to other people living longer.”

Following some questionable 'biscuits' in her Signature round, the whole experience in the tent was one big celebration for Carol and she certainly topped it off in style with a Star Baker win!
