Catch up on this week's culinary carnage

This week's celeb bakers
in culinary carnage

This week's batch of bakers tackle a traybake Signature, a savoury Technical and a biscuit Showstopper as injuries plagued the tent in the fourth episode of The Great Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off.

Joe Sugg and Alex Jones both experienced similar dramas with apple peelers and electric mixers, leading to an unusual appearance by the on-set medic. They were joined in the tent by singer James Blunt and presenter Alison Hammond, with faves Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding on hand to host and Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith judging the somewhat questionable baking techniques.

WERE BLUNT'S BAKES AS BEAUTIFUL AS HIS SONGS?

James Hillier Blount, better known as James Blunt, is a singer, songwriter, and was a former reconnaissance officer in the British Army.

James had an interesting approach of talking to his traybake, but perhaps singing his pop hits would have worked more effectively?  The showstopper round saw the celeb bakers create a biscuit-based scene depicting their childhood career aspirations. The only contestant who actually fulfilled their childhood dream was Blunt, who has recently bought a pub where they put on “You’re Beautiful” to clear out the punters at closing time.

James talked of his reasons for supporting Stand Up To Cancer,  'Almost every person has been touched by cancer in their own way, and it’s fantastic to be able to get involved. Also, if I can make a cake in the name of Stand Up to Cancer, then literally anyone can.'

ALISON BAKES WITH A 'WHOLE LOTTA HEART' BUT STRUGGLES WITH BASICS

TV personality and presenter Alison Hammond of former Big Brother fame had the other bakers and viewers at home in tears of laughter over her struggles with the workings of the oven door. That didn't put Alison off her baking, as we watched her joyous contribution, winning the Technical round and feeling like 'she won the show'.

Alison chose to support Stand Up To Cancer because 'so many people that I love and care for have been affected by cancer. It would be crazy for me not to do this. It’s touched me in so many ways, there are people who are really close to me as well, who have been through chemo or are going through chemo now.'

ALEX JONES' EXPERIENCE HAS HER IN STITCHES

More familiar with presenting TV shows than baking on them, Alex's injury took centre stage in the tent. The One Show presenter had to be seen by the on-set medic for stitches after her mixing bowl shattered into pieces. Like a total baking badass, she refused treatment to make sure that she still had time to create her travel agents Showstopper.

While Alex was keen to continue baking, she did admit that the major lesson she learnt was to 'buy cakes instead'. Alex supports Stand Up To Cancer because 'anything that any of us can do to raise awareness and to boost the pot for the research can only be a good thing.'

STRICTLY STAR JOE SUGG CROWNED STAR BAKER DESPITE FUNNY TURN IN THE TENT

YouTuber Joe Sugg may not have won Strictly Come Dancing but he's still got something to celebrate. Now he can add baking to his long list of skills. YouTuber Joe found his feet (but lost the top of his finger) after a dramatic episode.

Medics were rushed in to help Strictly star Joe after he collapsed having sliced the top of his finger while making the Signature tray bake. In a dramatic turn of events the star fainted when attempting to take a breather, shocking cast and crew who rushed to his rescue. It didn't stop him being awarded the ultimate in all baking accolades though, as he was crowned Star Baker for his Showstopping archaealogical dig. We really dig Joe's baking efforts!

A huge Stand Up To Cancer supporter over the years, Joe said, 'I’m fortunate that nobody in my immediate family has been through cancer, but you don’t have to go far outside of your family to find someone that has.'
