THE SECOND BATCH OF BAKERS
TURN THE HEAT UP IN THE TENT

DID HOLLYWOOD STAR RICHARD DREYFUSS GET A HOLLYWOOD HANDSHAKE?

Richard Dreyfuss, Oscar-winning actor had ‘never baked’ before taking part in The Great Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off.  We can’t taste his bakes from here, but Richard certainly impressed us all with his elegant and rather tuneful cannoli dusting and roulade making. Not to mention his Close Encounters, volcano-inspired Showstopper. Sadly, they weren’t enough to secure the Hollywood handshake, but luckily he has plenty of awards to his name already.

We had a lot of fun watching this Hollywood star in the tent, and it sounds like he had a lot of fun being there too!  ‘It’s a hell of a lot of fun. When they asked me to do something for such a good cause – an inarguable cause – it’s all the more exciting and fun. Why not? If everyone could be convinced to help in the fight against cancer, and have as much fun as I did today, we’d be curing these illnesses like this [clicks fingers].’

ACTRESS, SINGER, BAKER – ALL THREE? 'PASTY' PALMER MAKES IT THROUGH UNSCATHED

Some of us may recognise Patsy Palmer from her days on the square in Eastenders, or more recently taking to the stage in The Masked Singer – but has all that prepared her for the drama that unravels in the tent?

Patsy made it through the first two challenges unscathed, but she really came into her own and wowed the judges with her Showstopper.

When asked why she wanted to take part in The Great Stand Up To Cancer Bake Off, Patsy said, ‘I’ve had so many family members that have passed away from cancer. It’s horrendous. I’ve been through it with them, it’s horrendous going through it. There’s nothing worse. Just recently a friend died young. Even friends’ kids have had it. The greatest thing, though, is that more people are surviving.’

SCARLETT MOFFATT REALISES IT’S MUCH HARDER BEING IN THE TENT THAN WATCHING IT

We’re all used to watching the action in the tent unfold from the comfort of our sofas, and Scarlett was no different – but once she got inside the tent, she realised it was a bit trickier than she first thought.  Scarlett confessed: 'I feel bad because when I was on Gogglebox, a little bit of a couch warrior, I was like "It can’t be that hard!"

"They give you three and a half hours to bake a cake, it’s going to be simple. But I genuinely thought you could take cake mix in with you. It’s really difficult. It’s quite stressful in a way because you want to do well."

Despite her initial worries, Scarlett did manage to produce some edible (yet sinister looking) bakes, including a very pink strawberry roulade.

JAMES BUCKLEY FLUSHES AWAY THE COMPETITION

James is no stranger to innuendo from his day’s of playing Jay in the Inbetweeners, and he couldn’t resist bringing some to the tent.  Anyone more familiar with James as his character Jay wouldn’t have had very high expectations for his baking performance.

But despite mixing up his whisking and folding and then trying to pull the wool over the judges’ eyes, James flushed away the competition with his toilet Showstopper and somehow came out on top!

BRETT'S STORY

A film about Brett, who passed away from a brain tumour, was also shown to remind viewers that the celebrities were baking in aid of Stand Up To Cancer.

The film followed Brett and his family from his diagnosis in 2015 to February 2019 when Brett sadly passed away, shortly after his wife, Nicola, gave birth to their third child. Brett got to spend a few precious hours with his new-born daughter as Nicola rushed from one hospital to another to meet him.
