David Schwimmer crowned
first Star Baker

Our first batch of bakers, David Schwimmer, Tom Davis, Rose Matafeo and Jesy Nelson kicked off this year’s The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer on Sunday, where they took on three challenges to try and win the Star Baker title. First up was the Signature Bake where bakers were asked to create six mini savoury pies. Next up was the Technical Challenge, which saw the bakers creating bright orange macarons. In the final task, the Showstopper, the bakers were asked to make a 3D scene out of meringue depicting their biggest ever celebrity fail.

David made a large, sculpted rabbit from French meringue and white chocolate buttons all the way from the U.S. Jesy made the Bake Off tent complete with two icing models of judges Paul and Prue, to reflect her baking struggles on the first day of the show. Tom created a ‘VIP Festival Toilet’ meringue scene complete with chocolate ganache and mango curd. Rose based her bake on being heckled at a stand-up comedy gig, recreating the scene with coffee Chantilly cream and chocolate spirals.

After judging, it was David Schwimmer who won the coveted Star Baker apron, having secured a Paul Hollywood handshake earlier in the show and impressed Prue with his ‘just delicious’ rabbit meringue.

Aspiring patisserie pros watching at home are able to hone their own skills with help from the new range of Star Baker merchandise from Stand Up To Cancer. 100% of the profits go to Cancer Research UK in support of the Stand Up To Cancer campaign.
