Having a mastectomy tattoo: Sue's story

Following her diagnosis for an aggressive form of breast cancer back in 2008, Sue had a double mastectomy.

The surgery left Sue with scarring across her chest, but she decided against having further reconstruction surgery to avoid putting her body through any more trauma.

Instead, she decided to mark five years of remission by having a tattoo over the scars to celebrate her victory over cancer.

“I didn’t want to deny what impact cancer had on my body. That was the first point of actually reclaiming my body.”

Watch the video to hear Sue's story about her mastectomy tattoo and how she chose to reclaim her body in a creative way.
